Baltimore riots: Obama 'won't leave dirty work to police'

President Obama has said he will not ignore the problems in Baltimore and will not leave the "dirty work" to the police.

He spoke of the need to "help lift up" poorer communities and create more opportunities for people there.

Failing to do so, he said, would leave the police and these communities in the "same cycles of periodic conflict".
