Asian boat crisis: Myanmar migrants held to ransom by traffickers
Many of the thousands of migrants stranded at sea are Rohinghya Muslims fleeing Myanmar, where they are not recognised as citizens.
Some boats never set out, and those on board are sent back to traffickers and held to ransom, instead of travelling as planned.
Officials in Myanmar now say they will attend an emergency meeting in Thailand next week to address Asia's migrant crisis.
Their participation in the talks had been in doubt, despite growing diplomatic pressure.
