US cannot accept 'militarisation' of South China Sea

US Defence Secretary James Mattis has accused China of showing blatant disregard for international law and contempt for other nations through its activities in the South China Sea.

In a speech at a regional security conference in Singapore, Gen Mattis warned that the US opposed countries "militarising artificial islands and enforcing excessive maritime claims".
