China bear bile industry's anger at welfare campaigners

Animal welfare groups are stepping up their efforts to stop bears being farmed for their bile, a popular ingredient in traditional Chinese medicine.

Campaigners say the practise of extracting the bile from live bears without the use of anaesthetic, which is entirely legal in China, is cruel and must be stopped.

But the industry is fighting back - and one bear farm has even announced plans to float on the stock market in order to expand.
