Before emerging as India's IT capital, Bangalore was known for its beautiful gardens, slow pace of life and as a pensioners' paradise. But once the 1990s technology boom got under way, that quickly changed.
Economic transformation has come hand in hand with rapid population growth, but sadly its infrastructure has not kept pace.
Traffic snarls are commonplace and sanitation presents a serious challenge.
