Sydney siege: Hostage texts mum to say 'I'm OK'

The mother of a man being held hostage inside a cafe in Sydney says her heart dropped when she received a text message to say he was inside.

She told radio host Ray Hadley that the 18-year-old apprentice plumber had dropped into the Lindt cafe for a coffee, when it was placed under siege.

The woman, identified as Mel, said: "He sent me a message saying 'I'm ok mum can't talk' and I haven't heard anything since."
