Greek shoe-thrower in protest against austerity programme
Three people have been held after a man threw a shoe at Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou attending a trade fair in the city of Thessaloniki .
The man who launched the shoe, Dr Stergios Prapavezis, is a respected local cancer specialist and member of the protest movement called the Patriotic Front.
Mass protests by unions have been planned against the government's austerity programme.
Dr Prapavezis told the BBC he protested because the government's financial policies were "being unfair to the people".
