Irish PM Cowen, will not stand in general election
Irish Prime Minister Brian Cowen has said he will not contest the upcoming general election.
Earlier this month, Mr Cowen stepped down as Fianna Fail leader but said he would continue running the government.
Mr Cowen is expected to dissolve parliament on Tuesday and a date for the election is then due to be announced, expected to be in February.
The collapse of the country's economy is expected to dominate the election campaign, with polling day expected to be towards the end of this month, as Mark Simpson reports.
