Pressure grows for common European migration policy

Home affairs ministers from across the European Union are gathering in Brussels for a meeting about immigration.

Discussions are expected to intensify over the future of passport-free travel in Europe's Schengen area.

The plans could be approved at a European summit next month.

The debate has been sparked by the large numbers of migrants arriving from troubled North African nations.
