The Queen extends her sympathy to all victims of troubled relations
The Queen has extended her sympathy to all victims of the troubled relations between Ireland and Britain over many years.
In a speech delivered at a banquet in Dublin, on the second day of her state visit, the Queen said that with the benefit of hindsight it was possible to see things which should not have happened and others which could have been done differently.
The remarks are closer to an expression of regret for some British actions than many had expected.
Nicolas Witchell reports.
