They are all nominated for the £25,000 Jameel Prize which is given to contemporary works inspired by Islamic art. The winner will be announced in September.
Contenders come from countries as diverse as Iran, the US, Iraq and Pakistan.
Salma Tuqan, curator of contemporary Middle Eastern art, gave the BBC a tour of the exhibition.
