John Galliano to learn fate in 'racial outburst' trial

A verdict is expected on Thursday in the trial of fashion designer John Galliano, who is accused of making anti-Semitic remarks at customers in a Paris bar six months ago.

Widely regarded as one of the finest fashion designers of his generation, he faces a maximum of six months in jail and a fine of up to 22,000 euros ($32,000 dollars) if convicted.

Mr Galliano's lawyer has said he is not expected to attend the hearing.

From Paris, the BBC's Christian Fraser reports.
