Euro crisis: French-German talks reach agreement

A plan to protect Europe's banks from the effects of the eurozone debt crisis is much closer, the leaders of France and Germany say after meeting to discuss the issue.

Chancellor Angela Merkel and President Nicolas Sarkozy said closer economic co-operation between countries was vital, and the measures to achieve this would be announced at a meeting later this month.
