Silvio Berlusconi faces vote on his government's budget
Italy's Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi is facing a crucial vote on his government's budget, which will decide if he still has a majority.
The financial problems there have deepened and there is speculation that he is about to lose power.
Interest rates on Italian government bonds have risen to a new record at 6.73%.
Tobias Jones, the author of The Dark Heart of Italy, told Radio 5 live Breakfast that Berlusconi has gone from being a King Midas figure to the person who has brought his country to the brink of bankruptcy.
