Italy crisis: Silvio Berlusconi defends his record
Following his resignation as Italian prime minister on Saturday, Silvio Berlusconi has made a statement defending his time in power.
Speaking on Italian television on Sunday, he said his government had acted "in record time" to pass the austerity measures required by the EU to tackle its debt crisis.
He said he felt sad that his resignation was greeted with boos and insults.
"But for the hundreds of demonstrators who were in the streets yesterday, millions in Italy know we have done whatever we could."
