Pope Benedict criticises Italy's overcrowded jails

Pope Benedict XVI has denounced the problem of overcrowding in Italy's jails, during a visit to the main prison in Rome.

The pontiff met inmates and told them he was determined to draw attention to the poor conditions in which they were kept.
