Romanian president is suspended

The Romanian parliament has voted to suspend the country's president, Traian Basescu for 30 days.

The measure was taken on the grounds that Mr Basescu had overstepped his authority by interfering in government business and legal affairs.

There will now be a referendum on whether to remove him from office.
