Spain prepares to announce budget

Spain will announce its austerity budget for 2013 on Thursday, against a backdrop of unrest prompted by the prospect of further cuts.

Mariano Rajoy's government is expected to outline 39bn euro's worth ($50bn; £31bn) of cuts, tax rises and reforms.

Wednesday's angry demonstrations carried on through the night, following figures showing the country's recession has deepened and economic output has fallen.

Tom Burridge reports from Madrid.
