Pope Benedict's Christmas plea for peace

Pope Benedict XVI has delivered his Christmas blessing and message from the central balcony of St Peter's Basilica, calling for an end to the bloodshed in Syria.

The annual message was watched by thousands of pilgrims gathered in St Peter's Square in Vatican City, with millions more watching on television and listening on radio worldwide.
