Algerian hostages: 'Situation serious and unstable'

Islamist militants have attacked and occupied a gas facility in eastern Algeria, seizing foreign hostages after killing a Briton and an Algerian.

The captives include British, Japanese, US, French and Norwegian nationals.

Norwegian Prime Minister Jens Soltenberg said his government was working to free the hostages.
