Horsemeat scandal: Europe searches for contamination source

French ministers will hold talks on Monday with meat producers after French supermarkets withdrew frozen beef meals made by two companies.

Tests showed that some of their products contained horsemeat, although they were advertised as beef.

Horsemeat was also found in similar products in Britain.

Now the French Consumer Affairs Minister, Benoit Hamon, says he is investigating a supply chain which began with two Romanian abattoirs alleged to be the source of the horsemeat.

Ben Geoghegan reports.
