'We are friends', Pope Francis tells cardinals

Pope Francis has been addressing cardinals from around the world at the Vatican's Apostolic Palace in Rome.

He told the cardinals ''we are friends'', and paid tribute to his predecessor.

In his address to the cardinals, the 76-year-old pontiff said older people had much to offer the young.

''Wisdom is like good wine - it gets better over the years,'' he said.
