Heseltine: UK is only advanced economy run from capital

The former Conservative Deputy Prime Minister Lord Heseltine has been explaining why he thinks more powers should be devolved to the English regions.

The government recently backed his report which had recommended ways to stimulate the economy.

Lord Heseltine told BBC Radio 5 live's Breakfast that it would be better if local government and industry leaders decided on regional spending.

"We are the only advanced economy in the world that tries to run, in detail, its economy from its capital city", he added.
