Merkel tells Obama: 'Spying on friends is unacceptable'

Germany's Chancellor Angela Merkel says she has made it clear to US President Barack Obama that "spying on friends is not acceptable".

It follows allegations that American intelligence agencies have been monitoring the German leader's mobile phone.

The issue has come up at an EU summit in Brussels.
