Ukrainians simmer over EU deal refusal

In Ukraine, thousands of people have gathered to protest against President Yanukovych's rejection of a deal that would see stronger ties with the EU.

Mr Yanukovych says the country cannot afford to sacrifice trade with Russia, which opposes the agreement.

Earlier on Friday European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso criticised Russia's "veto" of potential associations between former Soviet republics and Europe.
