Macedonia 'thwarts terror attack' says president

The Macedonian president has accused a group of gunmen, who clashed with police in Kumanovo, of planning terror attacks to destabilise the country.

Eight police officers and 14 gunmen died in the fighting, the group was led by five Kosovans according to the government.

There are many ethnic Albanians in Macedonia, some from Kosovo, and certain groups have demanded an independent state in the past.
