Amnesty calls for halt to Rio shantytown demolition
Amnesty International's secretary general Salil Shetty has expressed concern over the forced removal of people from their homes in impoverished areas of Rio de Janeiro ahead of the 2014 football World Cup and 2016 Olympic games.
Mr Shetty said many people were being given no choice but to leave buildings marked for demolition to make way for development projects ahead of the sporting events.
He said he would take his concerns to the Brazilian government and city officials.
