Guatemala election views: Amnesia or new vision?
Former General Otto Perez Molina has won the election in Guatemala. He becomes the first former military leader to take over the presidency since Guatemala restored democracy in 1986.
Rights groups accuse General Perez Molina of abuses during Guatemala's civil war, but he says there is no evidence and has promised to pursue a hard line against violent crime.
Some Guatemalans believe he will help the military regain the people's trust, but others see the result as a bout of "historical amnesia".
