Violence erupts at Sao Paulo protest

Police in Sao Paulo were forced to take shelter in the mayor's office after violent clashes with demonstrators on Tuesday night.

There were disturbances across Brazil's biggest city, with protesters also targeting shops, banks and the opera house.

An effigy of the mayor Fernando Haddad was burned and a TV satellite truck was set alight.

Protests were originally triggered by a rise in bus fares but have grown into nationwide demonstrations against corruption and the cost of hosting the World Cup.

Julia Carneiro reports.
