Raul Castro: 'Time to by-pass the embargo on Cuba'
The Cuban President, Raul Castro, has urged President Obama to use his executive powers to bypass the US economic embargo on Cuba. Castro has suggested that the process of normalising diplomatic ties "wouldn't make any sense" unless the embargo is lifted.
Since January 2015, the US has eased some trade restrictions on Cuba, including lifting a ban on US credit and debit card transactions in Cuba and lifting the ban on Cuban cigars.
The Cuban leader has also called for the US military base at Guantanamo Bay to be returned to Cuba saying that such issues were holding up the diplomatic process.
