Ayodhya trial 'political in nature', BJP says

India's supreme court has ruled that senior figures in the governing Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will face charges for criminal conspiracy.

The case goes back to the 1992 destruction of the 16th-Century Babri mosque by Hindu hardliners and the subsequent nationwide riots in which nearly 2,000 people were killed.

BJP spokesman Narasimha Rao spoke to the BBC's Newshour programme.
