Protests in Beirut as night falls on 'day of rage'
Lebanon's president has appointed Hezbollah-backed Najib Mikati as prime minister-designate, amid violent protests by thousands across the country
As night fell protests continues in the capital Beirut, with demonstrators loyal to outgoing Prime Minister Saad Hariri blocking roads despite his appeal for calm.
Earlier there were violent scenes in the city of Tripoli as protesters took to the streets as part of a "day of rage".
