Gaddafi supporters on Tripoli streets

Colonel Gaddafi has been arming his civilian supporters in the Libyan capital, Tripoli, in preparation for more clashes with rebels.

Checkpoints have been set up, there are armed patrols, and the central square is under police control.

The BBC's Middle East editor, Jeremy Bowen, has been allowed into the capital under official escort and sent this report.
