Syria: President Bashar al-Assad keeps to hard line‎

In his first speech since April, President Assad of Syria has blamed 'saboteurs' for the wave of protests sweeping the country.

He said he wanted a national dialogue on political reform, but insisted there could be no change while the country was in 'chaos'.

America said the world wanted 'action, not words' from Mr Assad.
