Clinton: President Assad has 'lost legitimacy' in Syria

The US Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, has said President Assad of Syria has lost legitimacy.

She said he had failed to deliver promised reforms and launched a campaign of violence against his own people to silence protesters calling for democratic change.

Mrs Clinton didn't call on Mr Assad to step down, but she made it clear he had no support in Washington.
