Syria ignores Arab League demands for observers

The Arab League has demanded that Syria accept 500 observers to monitor the violence in the country or face sanctions and further isolation. But the deadline has passed, apparently without a Syrian response.

Adding to the pressure is a report by a United Nations human rights panel which says there is evidence that security forces are torturing children.
