Syria monitors must act or quit, says opposition leader
The head of the main Syrian opposition group has said the Arab League monitoring mission should prove itself, or leave.
Bourhan Ghalioun of the Syria National Council also called on western countries to establish a safe area in the country and enforce a no-fly zone.
An Arab League emergency meeting in Cairo on Saturday will discuss whether to withdraw the monitors.
Mr Ghalioun spoke to the BBC's Paul Wood, in Paris.
