Bloodshed in Homs amid Syria turmoil

Opposition groups say 24 people died around Syria on Wednesday, as violence linked to anti-government protests continued.

A French TV reporter was among those killed. Gilles Jacquier, who worked for the France 2 channel, died in an attack in the city of Homs during a government-authorised trip.

The unrest came despite the presence of Arab League monitors in Syria, who are supposed top be monitoring a peace plan.

One of the league's 165 observers has already quit the mission describing it as a "farce", and reports suggest another is set to walk out.

Meanwhile, the US Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, has accused President Bashar al-Assad of chilling cynicism in his response to the uprising against his rule.

Daniel Griffiths reports.
