Egypt's president orders return of MPs

The new president of Egypt has reconvened parliament in what appears to be a challenge to the power of the military.

Mohammed Mursi's decree goes against a ruling last month by the constitutional court that the parliament, which is dominated by Islamists, was illegitimate.

Mr Mursi, whose Muslim Brotherhood party won the most seats in last month's election, said the chamber should reassemble until a new vote was held.

The BBC's Tim Allman reports.
