ICRC head in Syria over 'deteriorating' aid situation

Peter Maurer, the new head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), has travelled to Damascus to discuss the humanitarian situation with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

ICRC spokeswoman Cecilia Goin said Mr Maurer would discuss the "rapidly deteriorating" humanitarian situation and the organisation's desire to "scale up its distribution" of food parcels and other aid across Syria.
