Ali Haider Gilani rescue took brother by 'surprise'

The kidnapped son of Pakistan's ex-Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani has been rescued in Afghanistan in a joint Afghan-US special forces operation.

Ali Haider Gilani was abducted three years ago in his home town of Multan while campaigning for elections.

He is thought to have been held by a group linked to al-Qaeda.

His brother, Ali Musa Gilani, told the BBC the release came out of the blue.
