BBC team under fire outside IS-held Syrian town

In Syria, an alliance of Kurdish and Arab fighters is on the verge of capturing a key town from so-called Islamic State (IS).

Manbij, in the north of the country, is a crucial staging post on the jihadist group's supply route from the Turkish border to its headquarters in Raqqa.

The Kurdish and Arab fighters have encircled Manbij with the support of US-led coalition air strikes and special forces personnel.

The BBC is the only international broadcaster to have gained access to this area, which remains extremely volatile.

This is the moment when our correspondent Jiyar Gol and producer Joe Inwood came under fire from IS snipers.
