New nursing bag to combat infection

Doctors and nurses have been using the same black Gladstone bag for over 150 years.

They can harbour dangerous bacteria and important medical items can be lost in the many crevices and pockets.

David Swann of the University of Huddersfield and Royal College of Art has designed a "21st Century" nursing bag made out of a non-permeable polypropylene plastic, with easy to clean draws and a hard surface to be used as a treatment area.

The Health Show is broadcast on BBC World News on Saturdays at 1010 and 2010 GMT and on Sundays at 0710 and 2310 GMT. The programme is supported by the Gates Foundation.
