British troops hand over control of Lashkar Gah

British troops have handed over control of the city of Lashkar Gah in Helmand province to Afghan security forces.

The handover is seen as a critical step in a transition of power before foreign troops end combat operations in 2014.

It marks the beginning of the end for British control in the volatile area, which will be a test for local forces.

Jonathan Beale reports.
