Sri Lanka vigilante violence spreading
A wave of retaliatory violence and vigilante action have taken place in Sri Lanka in response to a series of "grease devil" attacks.
The "grease devils" have been accused of assaulting women at night in recent weeks and residents have accused the security forces of involvement in the attacks.
A policeman was killed by residents in the town of Puttalam and there have been violent clashes elsewhere. The police have denied any wrongdoing.
Charles Haviland reports.
