Why are so many Afghan women setting themselves on fire?

The Afghan government has launched a campaign to try to address the problem of self-immolation.

The Health Ministry says 22,000 cases were recorded in hospitals last year. Most of the cases involve women.

Women's rights activist Horia Mosadiq told BBC World Service that many of these women are victims of domestic violence who feel so desperate about their situation that they set themselves on fire.
