Hurricane Earl heads for US coast

Hurricane Earl is heading for the US east coast after causing power cuts and heavy rain across the eastern Caribbean.

The category four storm with winds of 215 kilometres per hour, is due to reach the Eastern US on Friday.

Officials there have warned it could cause storm surges and flooding and ordered the evacuation of an island off the coast of North Carolina.
