President Obama signs tax bill averting income tax rise
US President Barack Obama has welcomed "a substantial victory for middle class families" after signing a tax bill averting a New Year rise in income taxes for millions of Americans.
The US House of Representatives passed the compromise tax bill over objections from House Democrats about tax breaks for wealthy Americans.
Mr Obama said the $858bn (651bn euros; £542bn) package was "real money that's going to make a real difference".
