Arizona smashes Mexican drug ring in "huge operation"
US authorities say they have smashed a huge drugs-smuggling network run by a Mexican cartel in Arizona.
A total of 76 suspects were arrested and huge quantities of drugs and arms seized in a series of raids in "Operation Pipeline Express" - following a 17-month investigation by multiple US law enforcement agencies.
The ring allegedly used backpackers and vehicles to smuggle marijuana, cocaine and heroin across Arizona's western desert.
The BBC's Peter Bowes said the drugs bust was part of a "huge operation" by authorities.
