Rick Perry downplays TV debate memory blank

Rick Perry, the governor of Texas, is struggling to save his campaign for the Republican presidential nomination after a memorably poor performance in the latest televised debate.

Mr Perry declared his intention to close three entire government departments if he became president. But struggled to remember which ones they were.

It is the latest in a series of Republican difficulties.

The BBC's Mark Mardell reports from Washington.
